Micro-Ultrasound and Early Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment Share-back Session
UPCOMING SHARE-BACK SESSIONS
PROTECT is a pilot quality improvement initiative involving 10 family physicians practicing in Ontario, exploring the implementation of structured prostate cancer risk assessment and referral pathways, including the role of micro-ultrasound.
Join participating physicians as they share their real-world experiences, practical insights, challenges, and lessons learned. Discover approaches to earlier prostate cancer risk identification in primary care, including EMR-based screening, risk stratification, referral pathways, and the role of micro-ultrasound in prostate cancer evaluation.
Choose from five free virtual share-back sessions and register for the date that best fits your schedule.
These are non-accredited quality improvement share-back sessions intended for primary care physicians practicing in Ontario.
WHAT IS MICRO-ULTRASOUND?
Micro-ultrasound is a high-resolution imaging technology that uses higher-frequency sound waves than conventional ultrasound to provide detailed, real-time images of the prostate. It can help physicians identify suspicious areas and guide targeted biopsies when clinically indicated.
In the context of PROTECT, micro-ultrasound is discussed as part of the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway, following primary care identification of patients who may be at elevated risk based on PSA review, risk stratification, clinical judgment, and referral decision-making.
WHY ATTEND?
Join participating primary care clinicians as they share practical learnings from the PROTECT Quality Improvement initiative, including:
-
The role of micro-ultrasound assessment within the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway
-
Approaches to identifying patients who may be at elevated risk of prostate cancer
-
Practical considerations for PSA review, risk assessment, and referral decision-making
-
Primary care barriers and opportunities related to earlier prostate cancer detection
-
Real-world implementation learnings from participating practices
-
Discussion of referral pathways and next-step care coordination

SESSIONS LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Evaluate the practical utility of prostate cancer risk calculators and micro-ultrasound by reviewing real-world experiences from Ontario primary care practices participating in PROTECT.
Identify effective strategies to overcome common barriers to early prostate cancer screening and referral, including patient, provider, and system-level challenges encountered during implementation.
Apply peer-tested communication approaches and clinical learnings to support earlier risk assessment, informed patient discussions, and broader adoption of PROTECT principles within their own practices and professional networks.
